Victus Academy, a private school and hockey academy in Kitchener for student-athletes in Grades 5-12, was well-represented at the most recent male and female World Junior tournaments with 2 current students, 3 alumni and 1 coach all representing 3 countries.

Carson Rehkopf (Canada), Beau Akey (Canada), and Lennart Neiße (Germany) are all Victus alumni that participated in the Men’s U20 World Junior tournament. Sofia Ismael (Canada) and Georgia Watts (Australia) are current Grade 11 student-athletes that participated at the Women’s U18 World Juniors, with Mental Performance coach Jackson Slauenwhite working as Team Canada’s Mental Performance Consultant. One additional student, Hunter Boland will also be representing Australia in Men’s U18 World Junior tournament in Bulgaria in March.

Victus student Sofia shares gold medal with her classmates!

Sofia and Jackson won gold medals with Team Canada after a 3-0 victory over the United States in the finals and Georgia won player of the game in Australia’s match against Korea.

“It is a great honour for those student-athletes, alumni, and coach to represent their country,” says Todd Hoffman, Victus Academy’s Director of Student-Athlete Development. “They have worked very hard and demonstrated the ability to play at a high level while demonstrating a high degree of character and leadership to be able to represent their country. All of us here at the school are very proud of them.”

However, the hard work doesn’t stop as Carson and Beau, both signed to NHL contracts, look to continue their successful OHL seasons with the Brampton Steelheads and Barrie Colts respectively. As well, Lennart Neiße (GOJHL’s Cambridge Redhawks), Sofia Ismael (Etobicoke Dolphins U22 AA and Penn State commit), Georgia Watts (Kitchener Lady Rangers U18 AA), and Hunter Boland (Victus Varsity Falcons) are all working hard to make the jump to the next level. All of them have bright futures and this won’t be the last time we see them on the national stage.
