8 Victus Academy Students & Alumni Selected in 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft!
Victus Academy was well-represented in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft as 7 student-athletes in our Grade 10 class were selected. Jordyn Ertel, a former Victus student, was also selected and is included below. Congratulations to all selected!
Beau Akey becomes Victus Academy’s first 1st Round draft pick, going 19th overall to the Barrie Colts. He was announced by Ben Hawerchuk, the son of the late Dale Hawerchuk. Beau is a defenseman for the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA team and is also the captain. Hear is reaction to being drafted below:
Declan Waddick is Victus Academy’s first 2nd Round draft pick, going 39th overall to the Niagara IceDogs. Declan is a forward for the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA team. Hear is reaction to being drafted below:
Kyle Morey was selected in the 5th Round, going 87th overall to the Owen Sound Attack. He becomes the 3rd Victus Academy student to be drafted by Owen Sound in the past 2 years, joining Madden Steen (2020 – 3rd Round) and Cedricson Okitundu (2020 – 4th Round). Kyle is a forward for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers U16 AAA team and is also their captain.
Blair Scott was also selected in the 5th Round, going 98th overall, to the Soo Greyhounds. Blair is a defenseman for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers U16 AAA team.
Brady Schwindt was selected to his hometown team, the Kitchener Rangers, in the 8th Round (142nd overall). Brady is a forward for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers U16 AAA team.
Jack Moffat, a Victus Academy student since Grade 9, was selected in the 10th Round, 197th overall, to the Guelph Storm. Jack is a defenseman for the Cambridge Hawks U16 AAA team.
Jordyn Ertel, who attended Grade 8 at Victus Academy, was selected in the 10th Round, 198th overall, to the Oshawa Generals. He is a forward for the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA team. His brother, Justin Ertel, was drafted in his Grade 10 year at Victus Academy in the 3rd Round to the North Bay Battalion. His reaction to getting drafted can be seen below.
Cole MacArthur was selected in the 12th Round, 236th overall, to the Windsor Spitfires. Cole is a defenseman for the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA team.
These 8 draft picks represent the highest number of draft picks that Victus Academy has had and brings the total to 25 Victus Academy students drafted in 5 years. Congratulations!
